Costa Rica has been ranked as the one of the Happiest Countries in the World. It’s one of the safest too. Why?
Having eliminated the army in the 1940’s, offering health care for all it’s citizens, forging a 95% literacy rate, and conserving close to 30% of it’s land and natural resources could be the formula for happy people. And maybe it’s simply just, Pura Vida.
Pura Vida is the response to most questions asked of Ticos.
What’s up? Pura Vida!
How are you? Pura Vida!
What a day. Pura Vida!
Pura Vida is “Pure Life”. That present mindedness reminds the asker and the responder that Life is for Living.
The Global Classroom Project echos Pura Vida. We are here to maximize life. Maximize happiness. In service, following our passions, and in challenging our perspectives, we get perspective. We get life.
While Costa Rica is not the only country the GCP travels to, our partners in Costa Rica, Costa Rica Explorations, has put together an amazing, holistic, authentic experience for our participants. Located at the base of Volcan Turrialba, Turrialba is approximately the size of Boulder, Colorado with a population of 80,000. While Turrialba is not a huge tourist destination by Tico standards, people come from far and wide to train for cycling and mountain biking, whitewater raft the two Class III-V rivers, zipline, explore the ancient history of Costa Rica, get away from the crowds, or tap into the world renowned CATIE University known for its studies in biodiversity.

Close to the town plaza, these trees line the old rail line to remind us of the town’s history and give us a landmark pointing us to our barrio.
Open Enrollment Trips
Open Enrollment Trips are scheduled each year to offer the incredible service, immersion, and adventure experience to individuals or small groups. Only a limited number of spots (12) are offered on these customized trips. Therefore, the application process and requirements are geared to self directed learners who are passionate about making a difference in the world.
Earning a spot in an Open Enrollment trip requires participation in the Global Classroom Project curriculum as well as a pre-interview and monthly meetings. Individuals who wish to participate in an open enrollment trip can start here for more information.
Group Trips
If you are part of an organization or school ready to sign up for a trip, trips (especially dates) can be customized to fit your schedule and organization’s focus. Organizations become partners with the Global Classroom Project and a curriculum is developed to best suit your goals.
